Start Building Web Prosperity Today
Have you ever wondered how bad our current economic situation is going to get? Will you lose your job and/or home. Could you wind up homeless? Is the government going to protect us and our homes? How bad is it going to get?
Are you preparing for your own future by creating some sort of survival plan, or are you taking the "wait and see" attitude? If I may, let me make a suggestion; don’t leave your financial future in the hands of the government. I highly recommend that you put a plan in place to survive these tough economical times.
According to an article on the Wall Street Journal web site, things are going to get a lot worse before they get better.
"More people are facing an extended period of joblessness and the potential financial difficulties that go along with it.
Unemployment hit 7.6% last month, with 11.6 million people out of work, and the number of people experiencing joblessness for more than six months has continued to increase, growing to more than 2.6 million in January, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
As jobless rates go up, duration usually follows, says Katharine Abraham, a University of Maryland economist."
The author of the article gives some great ways to prepare for the worse while you are still working. It’s easier to do some of her suggestions now then when you get laid-off. Here are a few of her suggestions, and then I will follow up up with a few of my own.
- "Double that emergency fund."
- "Consider downsizing your living quarters."
- "Since it’s easier to get credit while you’re employed, look into opening another credit card or a home-equity line of credit as a precaution in case money becomes hard to access if you are unemployed." [1]
I’m not so sure some of those ideas are the best that I have heard, especially when dealing with a financial crisis. I personally would prefer taking steps towards building prosperity rather than trying to protect what may be lost anyway. While the government is bailing water out of a sinking ship with teaspoons, there are individuals building new, unsinkable ships. Whose side would you rather be on?
In my opinion, the best way to build prosperity is to start your own business. I know what you’re thinking, "how could anybody start and build a successful business at a time like this?" That’s a great question. But there have been corporations, small businesses, and individuals that have prospered in bad times. There were companies, like United Aircraft and Transport Corporation, [2] that grew during the Great Depression. There were companies that exploded during the recession of the nineteen eighties. And there will be businesses that grow during this current economical downturn.
I believe that our new economy is going to be the advent of the Internet. People are going to flock to the Internet with the hopes of becoming prosperous on the web. Yes, web prosperity is coming, and I believe it’s going to come with a force never seen before. Why? Because people will not be able to find jobs. People will have to create a job for themselves. Jobs, as we know them today, are going by the wayside. But the Internet is here to stay.
Building web prosperity is not going to be easy, but neither is finding a job. So, if you’re one of the lucky ones that’s still working, start a business today, because there’s no guarantee you will have your job tomorrow. Take advantage of the web and what it has to offer. Create you own niche before someone beats you to it.
Tomorrow may be different than today, and we never know what tomorrow holds. Take the first step today towards web prosperity.
